About the Author
A.W. Tozer embarked upon a lifelong pursuit of God at the age of 17 after hearing a street preacher in Akron, Ohio. He was a self-taught pastor, writer, and editor whose powerful messages continue to grip the hearts and stir the souls of today's believers. He penned more than 45 books, including the classics The Pursuit of God, The Knowledge of the Holy, and The Purpose of Man.

James L. Snyder is the pastor of the Family of God Fellowship in Ocala, Florida. He is recognized as an authority on the life and ministry of A.W. Tozer and has written a number of books and essays in Christian periodicals about Tozer. Snyder has a weekly radio ministry and writes a nationally syndicated newspaper column.

Not Tozer's Best

I'm a Tozer fan, so I was eager to dig into this devotional guide. Even though the scriptures were all KJV and the daily loaded with Elizabethan language, I dove in as usual to what the 20th century prophet had to say. Unfortunately, Tozer's remarks seldom had much to do with the daily scriptures. And they are highly repetitive, so that you can read basically the same idea for an entire week, with little variation in the thought.

Additionally, it reads more like Tozer's unedited thoughts. Having read a good bit of Tozer's work, I found this compilation to be wanting.

Should be on every Christian's nightstand

A.W. Tozer has become one of Christianity’s most beloved writers, enthralling readers with his classics such as Knowledge of the Holy and The Pursuit of God. Tozer wrote in such a compelling way that you knew he was completely wrapped up in the subjects he discussed and realized his eloquence was but a faint shade of the splendor he spoke about. His writing has affected millions throughout the years, and he has become especially prolific after his death, with publishers—especially Regal—releasing compilations of sermons and other unpublished works. Tozer was a mystic with a mind, perfectly blending spirituality and rationality, emotionalism and factualism. Tozer went deeper into both sides than most writers ever achieve and the result is a resounding wealth of Christian knowledge and exhortation that serves as compelling treatises today.

In this latest Tozer collection, recognized Tozer scholar James L. Snyder has compiled and edited a year’s worth of Tozer writings. Unlike a lot of devotionals that are compiled from the writings of famous Christians, My Daily Pursuit is not simply snippets of Tozer’s previous works. Instead, this is what Snyder calls “Conversational Tozer.” The page long daily devotions are gleaned from previously unpublished writings and sermon material. It’s like rummaging through his desk drawers and picking out the notes and journals and stacks of sermons. The result is a very intimate look into the spiritual life of Tozer, one that bleeds out in a very warm and conversational style.

Tozer’s overriding goal in life was to pursue God daily. I think he would be overjoyed to see that his writings have been collected in a format that encourages others to do the same. Along with each devotion is a snippet of Scripture, a quote from some other individual on the topic, and a short prayer. It’s a quick, bite-sized read perfect for a few minutes in the morning (or late at night, if you’re me). Basically, if you’re a Tozer fan, you have to get this. And if you’re not a Tozer fan, you should be, so you have to get this. This should be on every Christian’s nightstand.

A must have!!

Always inspiring, always convicting, always pointing the reader or the listener to God. AW Tozer lived his life pursuing God with all he had. His faithful and persistent pursuit of truth led him to preach and write of the mysteries of God. I am amazed at the prophetic words this man spoke and wrote over 50 years ago. Still today they resonate within the hearts of believers, and they cause the Christian to hunger after God in new ways. His message of 50 years ago still applies today - proving that God's Word is a living Word and surpasses the standards of time.

If you are looking for something fresh for the new year. IF you are looking for a devotional that will challenge and inspire you - one that will push you to the edge and beyond of your comfort zone - one that will cause you to seek the presence and person of God himself then this is the one for you. As I scanned the entire book and set down to study what I could before this review was to go out I was amazed. Tozer is an author that speaks to a Christians heart. I have often read his works and imagined what it must have been like to sit in his church and hear these words echo off the walls of that sanctuary. To see the people begin to move in the pews and to feel the Holy Spirit press down and move people to action. Yes, Tozer is that type of man. A student of the Word who pursued God with a passion that would be intoxicating to be around.

I encourage you to pick up a copy of this devotional and be changed - to experience God in a new and wonderful way.

Not the best in terms of ease of use

I have viewed many different clinical skills and assessment guides and I just personally think this one is set up so oddly. It is supposed to be a handbook for ease of access but I don't find it to be a quick reference guide. However, the information is excellent and complete. I wish I had bought the actual textbook version instead of the handbook version (which was recommended by my school so it could be brought easily to lab or clinical) because I don't find it "handy" at all. More of a sit down and read type of book in smaller format. I actually rarely use it now and tend to just google or reference note cards for the quick information I need. On a positive not, it is not information this handbook lacks. I am simply not a fan of the pictures and charts interrupting the flow of the explained assessment techniques. Perhaps it would have been better to have put the comparison charts or pictures at the end of each chapter after the assessment data has been explained. I say this because the book is supposed to be smaller and more condensed than a textbook. If you are using it as a review and already know what, say, retinal hemorrhages and cotton wool patches in the eye look like, you don't want a whole page of pictures interrupting the flow of your assessment explanation. But overall great book with well explained "normal" and "deviations from normal" data to look for in your assessment and how that can vary among pediatric and geriatric clients.
